No change in granulation tissue

They rolled Alexandar down to the operating room at about 4:30 this afternoon. Afterward, Dr. Kerschner told us there really hasn't been a change in the level of granulation tissue. He told us they plan to go back to the operating room and try to extubate a week from Monday - April 4th. In the mean time, they'll try to wean Alexandar from the ventilator. If at that time he fails extubation, the only real option will be to go in and try to cut out the remaining granulation tissue. Apparently that isn't a great option - the main risk being that the granulation tissue could grow back even more densely than it is already, causing more problems. But it could fix it, and anyway we're not yet to that point - he might still do fine without the breathing tube. So we're back to more of what we've grown somewhat used to over the past eight weeks - more waiting. Thank you to everyone who has continued to keep Alexandar in your thoughts and prayers. His road to recovery has been challenging and he has come a long way, but he does still need a lot to go his way before we can be together at home where we belong. Update 2005-03-26 10:51 AM The operating room extubation will take place on Monday, April 4th (not the seventh).
